Cobalt concentrate
As the zinc solution must be free of the elements such as manganese, cobalt, nickel, iron, and cadmium before electrolysis; cobalt and manganese are removed using Potassium permanganate. After the precipitation of cobalt and manganese and filtration, the filter cake, also called Hot Filter Cake, mainly contains zinc, manganese, and cobalt. Then, the cobalt cake is processed to separate manganese and produce cobalt concentrate with the grade of 8-10%. Manganese carbonate: In this step, separated manganese is precipitated by carbonate solution, after drying the manganese grade is about 41%.
